Are Reddit ads worth it? Costs, targeting and fit
Reddit ads are worth it when buyers discuss your category in communities you can name. Refine Labs put B2B awareness CPM at $9.33 in Q1 2026.
By GroundBreaker Media7 min readA buyer asks Reddit which software or contractor to choose, and the replies shape the shortlist. Reddit ads put your offer beside that conversation. They are worth it when your buyers gather in communities you can name and leads can be tracked to sales. Reddit ads cost $9.33 per thousand impressions for B2B awareness in Refine Labs’ Q1 2026 data.
How much do Reddit ads cost?
Reddit does not publish a price list. Ads are sold by auction, and what you pay depends on your bid, targeting, creative and the billing event your objective uses.
The help article How much do Reddit Ads cost explains that billing follows the campaign objective and optimization goal. Cost per thousand impressions (CPM) is the price of 1,000 ad views, and Reddit charges either by impression or by click depending on that setup. In a traffic campaign, lowest cost bidding bills per impression, on optimized CPM, while cost cap bills per click. For awareness and consideration, cost cap targets an average CPM or cost per video view. Three budget rules matter for planning:
- Ad groups "may overspend their budget by up to 20%" because delivery runs on live auctions.
- Reddit does not guarantee an ad group will spend its full budget.
- Budget changes can take up to 60 minutes to apply.
The same page does not state a minimum daily budget, so confirm the floor in Ads Manager before planning around a figure you read elsewhere.
For cost benchmarks, one recent, dated data set comes from Refine Labs, a B2B marketing agency. Its Q1 2026 paid awareness benchmarks, published April 1, 2026, cover brand awareness campaigns in the B2B accounts it manages. It does not disclose the number of accounts or whether figures are averages or medians.
| Platform (Refine Labs, Q1 2026) | Click-through rate | CPM | Cost per click |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meta | 0.20% | $4.19 | $2.06 |
| 0.30% | $9.33 | $3.11 | |
| 0.38% | $42.29 | $11.24 |
Reddit sat between Meta and LinkedIn on price, and it was the only one of the three getting more expensive. Its CPM rose 36.8% and its cost per click 67.3% against Q1 2025, while LinkedIn’s fell 13.7% and 21.8% and Meta’s fell 4.8% and 22.6%. These are awareness figures for B2B brands, so a store buying sales or a local business buying leads will see different numbers.

How does bidding work on Reddit?
Reddit offers four bid strategies: lowest cost by default, target cost in beta, cost cap, and manual bidding, according to the same help article.
- Lowest cost: you enter no bid, and Reddit tries to get the most results for your budget.
- Target cost (beta): you set a target average cost per conversion or app event. It is not guaranteed, and it needs at least 200 events in the last 28 days for sales and lead generation, or 120 for app promotion.
- Cost cap: you set a maximum average cost. Reddit is removing it for lower-funnel objectives on February 10, 2027.
- Manual bidding: one bid per auction, available for any objective, though Reddit recommends automated strategies where they exist.
The target cost threshold tells you how much spend that strategy needs before it is even available:
Spend needed for target cost eligibility = 200 × expected cost per conversion, within 28 days
Example (hypothetical numbers): a software company expects a $60 cost per lead on Reddit. Reaching 200 leads in 28 days takes about $12,000 of spend. A company spending $3,000 a month will not qualify, so lowest cost bidding is the realistic choice, with cost per lead checked against the maximum cost per lead your numbers allow.
Max campaigns are Reddit’s automated option. Reddit opened them in beta on January 5, 2026, combining lowest cost bidding with campaign budget optimization, suggested audiences and automatic selection among the headlines, images and videos you supply (PPC Land, January 5, 2026). They reached general availability in the third quarter of 2026 (PPC Land, October 29, 2026). We keep a standard campaign running beside a new Max campaign for the first weeks, so there is a baseline to judge it against.
How do you target an audience on Reddit?
Reddit targets people by the communities and conversations they take part in, by keywords in those conversations, and by your own customer data, with ads shown in the feed or inside threads.
- Keywords and context: Reddit’s contextual keyword targeting shows ads based on the context of each conversation, not only the subreddit. In October 2024 it was extended from conversation placements to feed ads, along with AI keyword suggestions and an option called Dynamic Audience Expansion (Social Media Today, October 13, 2024).
- Your own data: Reddit’s Audience Manager handles customer list and engagement retargeting audiences. Lookalike, age, gender and postal code targeting cannot be used for housing, employment and credit ads.
- B2B signals: in October 2026 Reddit began testing in-market audiences for enterprise, business AI and cybersecurity, and added targeting data from partners including Bombora, Demandbase, Clay, G2 and Octane 11. Reddit says more than 20 million business decision-makers use the platform (Social Media Today, October 6, 2026).
Placement shapes how the ad reads. A conversation placement ad sits under the original post and above the first comment (Media in Canada, September 2, 2021), so it is read as part of the discussion, and the creative should sound like it belongs there.
Who uses Reddit, and is the audience growing?
About a quarter of US adults use Reddit: 25% in Pew Research Center’s 2026 survey, against 26% in 2025 and 22% in 2023.
The Pew fact sheet, dated October 19, 2026, is based on 5,511 US adults surveyed between January 30 and June 18, 2026. Reddit use climbs with education. In Pew’s 2025 report, about four in ten adults with at least a college degree used Reddit, against 28% with some college and 15% with a high school diploma or less.
Reddit’s own numbers show US use holding flat while prices climb. In the third quarter of 2026, Reddit counted 50.7 million US daily active uniques, its measure of distinct daily visitors, down 2% from a year earlier, and 188.5 million US weekly active uniques, flat. International daily uniques grew 24% to 79.6 million. Ad revenue rose 54% to $847 million, and Reddit’s shareholder letter credited growth in "pricing and impressions" (PPC Land). More ad money chasing a flat US audience fits the rising costs in the Refine Labs data.
When are Reddit ads worth it, and when are they not?
Reddit earns a place in the plan when buyers ask peers before they buy, and the product can stand up to an open discussion of its pros and cons.
Strong candidates:
- Software, financial and technical products with active communities around them.
- Hobby and enthusiast products, where buyers compare specifications in public.
- B2B offers aimed at practitioners who discuss tools in professional subreddits.
Weaker candidates:
- Local services in a small area, where few community members are nearby.
- Offers that need older or less college-educated buyers, given Pew’s figures.
- Campaigns that cannot accept public criticism in the comments.
Measurement decides the verdict. Reddit’s lead generation ads, launched in July 2024, open a form with the email field already filled in and send leads to a CRM through Zapier (Social Media Today, July 25, 2024), and Reddit announced a HubSpot integration in October 2026. Pair that with pixel and server-side tracking, as set out in the guide to tracking that survives privacy changes, so Reddit is judged on cost per qualified lead. GroundBreaker Media connects Reddit leads to client CRMs under Revenue Infrastructure. If you need to reach specific job titles, compare the cost with LinkedIn ads for B2B.

How do you advertise on Reddit for the first time?
Run one focused test that ends in CRM data, not a broad campaign judged on clicks.
- Map the communities. List the subreddits where buyers ask about your category, and read a month of threads before writing a word.
- Pick one conversion. Choose a lead or sale that reaches your CRM, and confirm it records before launch.
- Start on lowest cost. Keep target cost for later, when the account clears 200 conversions in 28 days.
- Write for the thread. Plain language, a specific claim and no stock imagery, because the ad will sit among user posts.
- Hold steady. Reddit recommends leaving Max campaigns stable for 14 days after creation or a major edit (PPC Land, January 2026), and the same patience suits a standard test.
- Judge on qualified leads. Compare cost per qualified lead with your other channels, then decide whether to scale.
Frequently asked questions
What are Reddit Max campaigns?
Max campaigns are Reddit’s automated campaign type. They pair lowest cost bidding with campaign budget optimization, suggest audiences and pick among the headlines, images and videos you supply for each impression. Reddit opened them in beta in January 2026 for traffic and conversions, made them generally available in the third quarter of 2026, and has since added lead generation objectives.
Can a Reddit ad group spend more than its budget?
Yes. Reddit’s help center says ad groups may overspend their budget by up to 20%, because delivery runs on live auctions. It also says Reddit does not guarantee an ad group will spend its full budget. Budget changes can take up to 60 minutes to take effect, so make them well ahead of the hours that matter.
What are Reddit lead generation ads?
They are ads that collect contact details inside Reddit. A sign-up button opens a form with the email field filled in automatically, and a Zapier integration sends leads to your CRM. Reddit launched them in July 2024 for brands working directly with its ad team, and in October 2026 announced a HubSpot integration and Max campaigns for lead goals.
Where do Reddit conversation ads appear?
Conversation placement ads appear inside a thread, under the original post and above the first comment. Reddit launched the placement in September 2021 after a 12-month beta with more than 600 advertisers. Since October 2024, keyword targeting works in both feed and conversation placements, and multi-placement optimization balances delivery between the two.
