LinkedIn ads for B2B: costs, formats and targeting

LinkedIn ads for B2B cost about $9 to $11 per click in 2026 data. They pay when deal value covers that price and CRM stages are sent back to LinkedIn.

By GroundBreaker Media7 min read

LinkedIn clicks cost several times what Meta and Reddit clicks cost, yet B2B advertisers put 41% of their ad budgets there (Dreamdata’s 2026 report). In Refine Labs’ Q1 2026 data, a LinkedIn click cost $11.24 against $2.06 on Meta. LinkedIn ads for B2B pay when deal values absorb that price and CRM data shows which clicks became pipeline.

What makes LinkedIn ads for B2B different from other social ads?

LinkedIn lets you target people by their work: job title, seniority, job function, employer, industry, company size and skills.

The LinkedIn Marketing API documentation, updated February 27, 2026, lists the targeting facets behind Campaign Manager: titles, seniorities, job functions, industries, staff count ranges, skills, member groups, degrees, fields of study, schools, years of experience, employers, followed companies, interests and locations, plus your own matched audience segments. LinkedIn’s audience page claims more than 1 billion members, 233 million of them in North America. In the US, 31% of adults said they use LinkedIn in Pew Research Center’s 2026 survey of 5,511 adults.

That precision is what you pay for. A campaign can be limited to, for example, finance directors at manufacturing companies in a chosen size band. For B2B offers sold to a defined buying committee, that control justifies a higher price per impression. For consumer offers, it rarely does.

How much do LinkedIn ads cost?

LinkedIn requires at least $10 a day for any ad format and a $100 lifetime budget for a new campaign, and two 2026 data sets put a B2B click at roughly $9 to $11.

Once a campaign is live, the lifetime minimum becomes $10 times the scheduled days, according to LinkedIn’s budget guidance. LinkedIn suggests a default budget of $25 for new advertisers and $50 to $100 for existing ones. Under LinkedIn’s objective-based pricing, you pay only for the billable event tied to your objective: a Website Visit campaign, for example, charges when someone clicks through to your site.

Cost per thousand impressions (CPM) measures what 1,000 showings of an ad cost. Published LinkedIn benchmarks for CPM and cost per click differ widely by sample, objective and region:

Source and sampleCost per clickCPMClick-through rate
ZenABM (Feb 2026): 211 B2B companies, $5.5M spend, US figures$8.99$62.670.52%
Refine Labs (Q1 2026): B2B awareness campaigns in managed accounts$11.24$42.290.38%
Dreamdata (2026 report): B2B customers, Aug 2024 to Jul 2025€5.98€34.33Not reported

ZenABM’s benchmarks, published February 16, 2026, cover 161,256 ads across 29 countries but do not state the date range. Refine Labs does not disclose its account count, and reports LinkedIn CPM down 13.7% and cost per click down 21.8% from Q1 2025. Dreamdata’s figures, reported in euros by PPC Land, come from thousands of B2B companies and show cost per click up 11.8% year over year. Plan with a range, then swap in your own account’s figures once a few weeks of spend have built up.

Table of LinkedIn ad costs from three 2026 sources: ZenABM US figures at $8.99 per click and $62.67 CPM, Refine Labs B2B awareness at $11.24 and $42.29, and Dreamdata at €5.98 and €34.33, with LinkedIn's $10 daily minimum budget.

Which LinkedIn ad formats work best for B2B?

Start with feed ads and Lead Gen Forms for leads, and test Thought Leader Ads, which had the lowest median cost per click in ZenABM’s 2026 benchmarks.

LinkedIn’s ads guide lists the main options:

  • Single image, video and carousel ads: standard feed units. Video runs up to 30 minutes, and carousels hold 2 to 10 cards.
  • Document ads: a PDF, Word or PowerPoint file of up to 300 pages, previewed in the feed with no landing page required.
  • Thought Leader Ads: sponsored posts from executives, subject matter experts or employees.
  • Lead Gen Forms: forms pre-filled from LinkedIn profiles, with up to 12 fields and 3 custom questions, plus CRM integration and CSV download.
  • Conversation and Message Ads: delivered to LinkedIn inboxes. Conversation Ads offer up to 5 calls to action; Message Ads allow up to 1,500 characters.
  • Event, Connected TV and right-rail ads: event registrations, streaming video and the small Spotlight, Follower and Text units beside the feed.

Format moves the price a long way. In ZenABM’s sample, Thought Leader Ads had a median cost per click of $2.29 and click-through rate of 2.68%, against $13.23 and 0.42% for single image ads, $13.30 for carousels and $15.61 for video. We test a Thought Leader Ad from a named expert early in any B2B program, then send engaged members to a Lead Gen Form campaign.

How do you target B2B buyers on LinkedIn?

Build the audience from job and company attributes, then layer your own data on top: contact lists, company lists and website visitors.

LinkedIn’s matched audiences let you target your own contacts, a list of companies or people who recently engaged, and Audience Expansion adds "similar business professionals." Its audience page sets the floor at 300 members to run a campaign, and recommends 50,000 or more for single image and text ads and 15,000 or more for message ads.

Narrow audiences cut total spend, not price. Before launch, work out what it costs to reach the whole audience at a useful frequency:

Monthly cost to reach an audience = members × impressions per member ÷ 1,000 × CPM

Example (hypothetical numbers): an account list of 25,000 members, shown each ad about 4 times a month at a $50 CPM, costs 25,000 × 4 ÷ 1,000 × $50 = $5,000 a month. Halve the frequency and spend halves, but each member sees the message half as often.

Two targeting habits keep costs in line. Exclude current customers and employees through matched lists. Avoid layering several narrow filters, such as exact titles plus skills plus company size, which can push an audience toward the 300 floor; job function plus seniority often reaches similar people with more room to deliver.

How do you measure LinkedIn ads when B2B sales take months?

Send CRM stages back to LinkedIn and judge campaigns on pipeline and closed deals, because form fills arrive months before revenue.

In Dreamdata’s 2026 report, the average B2B buyer journey ran 272 days, up from 211 a year earlier, and large companies with more than 250 employees took 326 days (PPC Land, March 10, 2026). A campaign judged on its first month of leads can look like a failure while it is filling next year’s pipeline.

LinkedIn’s Conversions API documentation, updated August 17, 2026, supports conversion rules for CRM stages "that represent both pipeline and closed won deals," with values passed from the CRM to calculate return on ad spend. Two details shape the setup:

  • Qualified leads must reach LinkedIn within 30 days to count toward ad set optimization.
  • Optimization needs a two-week learning phase, and LinkedIn recommends sharing five or more qualified leads within those two weeks.

The CRM fields and lead stages to track are set out in the CRM guide, and the CRM revenue guide explains why LinkedIn’s own numbers will not match your closed revenue. Why server-side sending holds up better than browser tags is covered in the privacy and tracking guide. GroundBreaker Media sets up this CRM feedback for B2B accounts, and questions about a specific setup can go through its contact page.

Are LinkedIn ads worth it for B2B companies?

LinkedIn ads are worth it when the profit from a closed deal can carry the cost of LinkedIn leads, and when your sales team can follow up the companies you target.

Example (hypothetical numbers): a software firm earns $24,000 in gross profit from a new customer, closes 5% of its LinkedIn leads and will spend 20% of that profit to win a customer. Worked through the cost per lead ceiling, that comes to $240 per lead. At an $11 click, it holds only if at least 4.6% of clicks become leads, the same backward math used for Google Ads budgets. A $2,000 service with the same close rate and share gets a ceiling of $20 per lead, which at $9 to $11 a click would need roughly half of all clicks to become leads.

Attribution data from B2B companies leans the same way. Using its own data-driven attribution on closed-won deals, Dreamdata measured LinkedIn return on ad spend at 121% in 2025, against 67% for Google Search and 51% for Meta. Those figures come from Dreamdata’s customers and model, so treat them as a signal, not a forecast.

LinkedIn is a poor fit for low-priced offers, consumer products and businesses without a sales process for inbound leads. For cheaper reach into technical communities, compare Reddit ads.

Frequently asked questions

Does LinkedIn use a second-price auction?

Yes. LinkedIn’s marketing blog describes a second-price auction, where the winner pays the minimum needed to beat the second-place bidder rather than its full bid. In LinkedIn’s example, a $1.40 bid that beats a $1.00 bid is charged $1.01. Relevance, based on predicted response rates, also decides the winner, so engaging ads can win with lower bids.

What are LinkedIn Thought Leader Ads?

Thought Leader Ads promote posts from executives, subject matter experts or employees in the LinkedIn feed, using text, image, video, newsletter or article posts. In ZenABM’s February 2026 benchmarks of 211 B2B companies, they had a median click-through rate of 2.68% and cost per click of $2.29, against 0.42% and $13.23 for single image ads.

What is the minimum audience size for LinkedIn ads?

LinkedIn requires at least 300 members to run a campaign. For enough scale, it recommends 50,000 or more for single image and text ads and 15,000 or more for message ads. Small account lists and layered filters can land near the minimum, so check the estimated audience size in Campaign Manager before you set a budget.

Can LinkedIn Lead Gen Forms send leads to a CRM?

Yes. LinkedIn Lead Gen Forms pre-fill details from member profiles, hold up to 12 fields and 3 custom questions, and support CRM integration and CSV download. Connect the form to your CRM before launch so each lead arrives with its campaign source, then send qualified leads back to LinkedIn within 30 days for optimization.
